GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to August 14, 2015

Anglers –
August 14, 2015

With summer progressing the weather has remained calm for the Los Cabos region, recent storm development has seen tropical systems following tracks heading far off to the west. Presently there is a low pressure area off of mainland Mexico that appears favorable for further tropical formation, with forecasts having this system follow a path paralleling the Baja Peninsula, several hundred miles from any impact on land. The next six weeks are historically the period when the highest numbers of hurricanes have impacted the Southern Baja area, so we will be following weather updates closely.

Tuna_300lbWith Southern California now experienced epic, almost unprecedented action for tuna, yellowtail, dorado, striped marlin and other gamefish, local sportfishing fleets are seeing lighter crowds than during previous summers. The main species now being targeting locally has been the yellowfin tuna, supplies of sardinas are now becoming more scarce and with surf conditions now increasing and coinciding with early morning low tides, we expect this bait resource will become even more scattered in the coming weeks. Many anglers are searching out other bait options, local super markets have been selling slabs of giant squid and this has been one of the more productive options available for drift fishing the tuna. The consistent tuna bite on the Iman Bank has continued, in recent days the action turned on best later in the morning, most of the yellowfin caught off of these grounds were ranging in the 6 lb. to 50 lb. class.

HEADLINES: August 10, 2015:
Fish Report Boy Says: Let me start off by saying, and I never thought I would say this; “JC we all know is a character and does get himself into some trouble now and then, but the man does take care of his clients and he makes sure everyone who charters a boat from  him are treated fair and gets a great Sport Fishing trip and experience. All his clients have given him nothing but great reviews through Trip Adviser and other media outlets and JC with 20 years in Cabo does have a great reputation and is fair and honest”
Fish Report Boy says: Now, enough of all the nice stuff. I was sitting in JC office and this guy I keep seeing in his office walks in and sits down and made some small talk with JC, then the guy gets up and leaves. I turned to JC and I said: “Whos that Buffoon? And JC says: “Oh, that’s Chris, and I say Chris, who and JC told me to mind my own business” Well, I snapped back and I threatened JC and told him “If that bum Chris is going to try and steal my job of writing this report I will take it out of your hide JC”
JC Screamed: Don’t worry about Chris, he’s just an over paid boat captain who stops by the office and talks trash sometimes. I thought you knew Chris? I will tell you a little more about him in next week’s report and talking about reports, get out of my office and go write that garbage you call a report!!!
Fish Report Boy shouted: Who’s Catlyn anyway?
JC screamed and Stuttered: it’s a guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl I USED TO FISH WITH!!

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.
WEATHER: Hot, Hot and Hotter: Yea, that’s the way it’s been over this past week as it feels like September now and it’s only August. All year has been really on normally hot with daytime temperatures up to around 100 degrees every day with a little breeze at night to cool stuff off, but in general Hot and Humid, so if you are coming to Cabo prepare yourself for some hot days cause it has really set in.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to August 8, 2015

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
San Jose del Cabo

Anglers –
August 8, 2015

Greg4The Eastern Pacific remains calm in the vicinity of Southern Baja, though at this time there is a powerful Hurricane Hilda brewing far off to the west, present forecast has it passing to the north of the Hawaiian Islands. Locally the conditions have been very tropical, with occasional thundershowers over the mountainous regions, ocean swells have been light, though currents have been strong, greenish water had pushed in after south winds from last week, though water clarity has showed improvement in recent days. This week the larger high stake tournament season kicked off with the East Cape Bisbee event, though overall crowds have been light as we move into the warmest period of the year and everyone is anxiously following weather reports for any development of tropical storms that might impact local interests.

Yellowfin tuna remain the main species being encountered by anglers, using sardinas for bait on the Iman Bank has been where the most consistent action is being encountered. Sardinas have been found schooling near the Puerto Los Cabos Marina Jetty’s, though these schools are not as plentiful as during the previous weeks, showing signs of impact from heavy pressure, since this has been the only area locally where these baitfish have been available. Some anglers are shopping for slabs of giant squid at local super markets as another option and this has been paying off.

HEADLINES: August 3, 2015:
It ended pretty badly I must say: it seems JC caught Donald Trump down on the dock after Trump had flown in to Marlin fish, well anyway a war of words broke out and then things got ugly. It seems JC was the one who threw the first punch, cold cocking Trump. Well, Trump came back with a flying drop kick which caught JC in his jaw and knocked him out for a second. JC the rock that he is wasn’t hurt a bit, he sprang back into action and caught Trump and put him in a Japanese Stranglehold and then flipped Trump over into the Chinese Telephone, which wasn’t pretty at all. Trump remarkably came back and got JC in a toehold and then proceeded to put JC in a Butterfly / Banana Split, well that pretty much hurt JC until he pulled himself together and caught Trump off guard and was able to put Trump into a Chickenwing Camel Clutch in which he held him till Trump managed to put JC into a Three-Quarter Facelock. Well, we all thought it was over for JC but you never can under estimate the little cheat , all of the sudden JC breaks free, and puts Trump into a Rope-Hung Figure-Four Armlock as Trumped screamed in pain: JC was whispering to Fish Report Boy pass it to me, pass it to me. So the fool that Fish Report Boy is, did what JC asked: and passed him the “Foreign Object” well it was over for Trump after that. JC put Trump into the most gruesome hold he could think of the “Apache Indian Deathlock” and then proceeded to use “Mad Mountain Mikes Atomic Drop” and then to top it off JC put Trump into a headlock and made him say “TIO” in which the wuss that Trump is, he did it.  Well, that was it for Trump he was sprawled on the dock, knocked out!!! JC was seen throwing Fish Report Boy something and everyone suspects it was the “Foreign Object” which is totally illegal. Anyway, that’s the way it went down and the lies and legend of JC continue till next week?

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT July 25th TO 31st, 2015

PISCES FISH REPORT
JULY 25th to 31st, 2015

Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined 65%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 64%, Tuna 13%, Dorado 3%, Other 9%

Black Marlin on Flora T

BILLFISH: This week we had outstanding billfish catches, but the only thing was, not for all the boats. It was feast or famine; while some boats came back with flags flying and smiling anglers, others drew a blank, often losing fish that wouldn’t stay, or just simply not getting them to bite. One of the main factors was the full moon, meaning the fish were gorging themselves at night with the heightened visibility. Those opting for a half day, did not meet with the same success rate as the full day charters. Warmer than normal water temperatures are giving us an influx of sailfish and one of the best blue marlin bites we’ve seen in years. Pisces Valerie started out the week with a bang – achieving a grand slam and more. A group of anglers from Los Angeles headed up by Ben Gebhardt fished with captain Roberto Sandez at the 11.50 spot and released a blue marlin, striped marlin, sailfish, two pilot sharks and boated a dorado and a tuna – what a day! There were several boats that had double sailfish day, such as Chad & Amy Norris from Alabama, aboard Speedwell at the Cabrillo Sea Mount. On July 27th Andrea did well to release two striped marlin 32 miles out from the 180 spot for Julian & Matt Puentes. This same day Cabolero and a super day with two blue marlin & a striped marlin released outside the Herradura for Mike & Alex Bunje, Jim & Marshall Tucker from Carlsbad, California. Bill Collector had a blue marlin estimated at 240 lbs, off of Cerro Colorado for the Talley family from Midland, Texas. Ruthless also managed to hook up a small blue marlin, which was successfully released by Heath & Kash Sisk.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to July 31, 2015

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
San Jose del Cabo

Anglers –
July 31, 2015

As we start a new month there are no new storm systems on the horizon that are forecast to affect Southern Baja. At this time Hurricane Guillermo is far off to west, following a path towards Hawaii, but is supposed to weaken before impact the island chain. Locally the weather has been very warm and humid, though skies have been clear, none of the afternoon thunder storms since last weekend. Ocean swells have been moderate, with water temperatures holding in the 86/87 degree range. Light afternoon breezes made for very comfortable conditions for anglers.
DanClark
The action on the Gordo Banks for past couple of weeks, which had been for mostly very small sized yellowfin tuna, has now faded out, still a few marlin being hooked into from these grounds, both black and blue marlin, a handful of striped marlin and sailfish. This past week there were marlin to over 300 lb. landed, these fish were striking on trolled skipjack or tuna.

With supplies of sardinas still maintaining fleets in the vicinity of the marina jetty the action now has switched north to the Iman Bank, using the small sized sardina baitfish anglers were finding a grade of yellowfin tuna in the 10 to 50 lb. class. No significant numbers, but most charters were accounting for two, three, four of five tuna per morning. Off the bottom this area produced some huachinango, dogtooth snapper, cabrilla and triggerfish, again no big numbers, but a few quality fish were reported.
