Cabo Fish Report
April 7 – 12, 2015

WEATHER: It feels as if we are coming into a summer weather pattern, at least for this week. Last week our lows were in the low 70’s but this week they have increased a bit every day. Friday the low was 75 degrees at 6 AM, Saturday it was at 76 degrees and this morning it was 77 degrees. The daytime highs have ranged between 90 and 94 degrees All of this is warmer than it has been the last several years, and along with the heat has come increased humidity. I have no idea if this is an indicator of things to come, but I am surprised. We had partly cloudy skies this week and the weather services were calling for a decent chance of rain on Friday, this was changed to Saturday and then to Sunday. Being at the tip of the peninsula we have no idea if it will ever happen as conditions can change so rapidly.
WATER: The water on the Pacific side of the Cape continues to be warmer than normal with most areas showing 73-74 degrees along the beach and just a half degree cooler offshore. On the Cortez side of the Cape the water is showing at 76-77 degrees with an occasional spot of 78 degrees. Both sides of the Cape have decently clean water but the currents on the Pacific side are roaring along strongly from the northwest while on the Cortez side they are weak and from the north east, basicly both are following the contours of the land. The weak currents on the Cortez side appear to be the remnants of the Pacific currents as they loop around the Cape and form a weak circular pattern between us and the East Cape.

JC was seen cruising around town in a 64 Rambler looking for a Christmas Tree. I asked him why:“Everyday is Christmas to me he shouted!! I said: Don’t you think it’s a little early? He said: Not Really:“I Just Feel Like it, that’s all, and I really don’t think its any of your business”He Barked:“Im happy, Marlin fishing is better, its Christmas to me ok!!”He then said: My Ebook called “As the Admirl Seas It, Recipes from My Heart” will be out shortly and everything seems like the holidays to me!! Ok Jc whatever blows your skirt up!! I excused myself and left his office to get this report out on time, otherwise I will get the JC wrath?

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.
WEATHER: Well it’s been pretty good all week but we had some overcast the last 3 days which made it a little humid. It hasn’t been much of a winter with cooler temperatures this year, not even in January of February.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to April 10, 2015

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Anglers –
April 10, 2015

FB_IMG_1428275289527 Spring break vacation period is now coming to a close, this has been a busy time in Los Cabos, with everyone enjoying the pristine conditions, perfect 85 degree temperatures now, felling a bit tropical, light winds, perfect conditions for all of the available outdoor activities.

Anglers found ideal ocean conditions, light swells, moderate variable afternoon breezes, with water temperatures ranging from 74 to 77 degrees, occasional swift currents, blue water being found within a couple miles of shore and a variety of gamefish now in local waters.  Most consistent fishing grounds were from the Gordo Banks and north towards Vinorama. Recent catches have included striped marlin, dorado, wahoo, yellowfin tuna, bonito, roosterfish, skipjack, pargo, cabrilla and jack crevalle. Sardinas have once again been found schooling near San Luis, commercial bait netters worked hard for limited supplies, other bait option were caballito, chihuil and ballyhoo. Many species now in the area, though the action varied from day to day and the fish needed to be worked for. Best action proved to be encountered while using various baits.

Dorado were not numerous, though some larger sized fish are now being accoutered for, some bulls to 30 pounds were brought in. Some of these dorado were found very close to shore. Most of the roosterfish now being found were along the stretch from Puerto Los Cabos Marina towards Punta Gorda and weighed less than fifteen pounds. Schools of large sized jack crevalle found close to shore as well, some up to 30 pounds. Not many sierra now being located. The Eastern Pacific bonito were one of the more prevalent species now present on the various high spots, these fish ranged up to ten pounds.

Cabo Fish Report
March 30 – April 6, 2015

WEATHER: Weather like we had this week makes everyone happy and feeling good. With daytime highs in the 90 degrees area and the nighttime lows in the low 70’s it did not matter what you were doing, it was comfortable. Oh, every day except Friday because for some reason we had very high humidity then. It was the perfect Easter weekend and every beach around was crowded with Semana Santa (Easter week) crowds. We had some light cloud cover during the last part of the week but no rain, and the winds managed to stay in the 8 – 12 knot range.

WATER: It was an interesting week of water temperature changes, and once again I am confused about why this is going on. We saw some areas off of San Jose on the 30th that were 82 degrees and off of the beach on the Pacific side where it was 73 degrees, a 10 degree change in little less than 20 miles. At the end of the week the currents had become much stronger wrapping down from the northwest and the sooler water extended out in a 30+ mile long plume to the southeast of the point. The hot spots that had been off of San Jose had dispersed quickly and the entire area had dropped to an average of 76 degrees.

BAIT: Most of the bait available from the bait boats was Caballito with a mix of green jacks and misc. small fish. The boats also had some frozen Ballyhoo and both frozen and live bait was offered at $3 each piece.

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT MARCH 28th TO APRIL 03rd, 2015

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
MARCH 28TH TO APRIL 3RD, 2015

Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined 74%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 57%, Dorado 9%, Other 29%
BILLFISH: We are pleased to report an improvement in fishing this week both generally and for billfish. Nevertheless it still could not be described as great. Water temperatures remain higher than normal for this time of year which could be a factor. More marlin were spotted this week but they tended to be fussy eaters. We had catches at both ends of the spectrum of our fishing grounds, from Destiladeras on the Cortez side to Margaritas and Migrino on the Pacific side. Top boat this week was Tracy Ann on March 30th for catching and releasing three striped marlin at Pozo de Cota for Jamie, Benjamin, Gretchen and James from Easly, South Carolina. All three fish took live caballito and were of a good size at 140-160 lbs. It was nice to see boats catching more than a single marlin and a little over a third of the charters managed two stripers and often some smaller game too. Valerie, Tracy Ann, Attitude Adjustment, Adriana, La Brisa, Rebecca, Valerie, were all boats that caught more than one marlin in a day. The fishing is becoming more consistent but has still not stabilized, for example on April 1st a lot of the boats were skunked despite spotting multiple marlin but the following day every boat out caught one to two marlin, even those on shorter days. Fifty seven percent of Pisces boats caught marlin this week, giving us a total of 46 fish, all released, except one.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to April 03, 2015

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
San Jose del Cabo

Anglers –
April 3, 2015

20150402_132938Easter Week is officially here, very busy time for the local residents and visitors alike. This is traditionally the time when family and friends gather, pack up provisions and flock to all of the available beaches to enjoy themselves during this holiday period. Weather conditions are absolutely ideal, clear sunny skies, with high temperatures nearing the 90 degree mark, winds and swells very moderate, very comfortable conditions for anglers.

With many fishing crew members now on extended camping excursions, also just not that many sport anglers now arriving in town, fleets have had light schedules this week. Later this month, warming weather patterns will offer sportfishing charters more opportunities and crowds of anglers will increase.

The larger swell that pushed through the region last week, has resided now, though this surge was strong enough to scatter the schools of sardinas which had been congregating near Vinorama, these preferred baitfish have now moved away from this beach stretch and we will wait patiently for the schools to return as conditions settle. In the meantime charters have been using the available caballito, chihuil, skipjack or ballyhoo for baitfish options. Ocean temperatures have ranging from 73 to 76 degrees and this is a warming trend which expect will continue. There were reports of schooling bolito on the offshore fishing grounds, this is also a great sign, as this food source will surely attract more gamefish.
