Cabo Fish Report
April 20 – 26, 2015

WEATHER: I don’t get tired of saying it, we had fantastic weather this week once again! Our daytime highs reached 89 degrees and the nighttime lows were down as low as 68 degrees several mornings. A bit of cloud cover moved in on us Wednesday afternoon and stayed with us through Friday, and along with the clouds came some stiff breezes on Thursday. No rain at all, although on Thursday it looked as if it might give us a little sprinkle.

WATER: Once again there was no change from what we were seeing last week as far as temperatures go with the Pacific side showing at 72degrees within 4 to 5 miles of the beach, but it actually got a bit warmer farther offshore, not much, only a degree or so, but that cool water plume we had in the area the past two weeks is now gone. Also, the water close to the beach was a bit off color compared to the warmer water offshore, but if you went out to the west of the San Jaime and Golden Gate Banks the water became pretty green. On the Cortez side of the Cape the water is showing at 77-78 degrees with an occasional spot of 79 degrees, and the water is a bit cleaner than on the Pacific side. The currents shifted a bit as well with water on the Pacific side going almost due south while on the Cortez side the currents followed the shoreline, running to the southwest until meeting the Pacific waters and going due south.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.

WEATHER: We really cant ask for any better weather than we had for the last couple weeks. The sun just continues to shine about every day. We have had a couple overcast days but nothing major. Highs around the mid to ladder 80,s and lows in the mid to lower 60,s. Everyone knows why so many people do come to Cabo and it’s the near perfect weather year round. We do get some hotter months in July, August and September but during those months, all the fishing and water sports here, are really good.

PISCES FISH REPORT
APRIL 18TH TO 24TH, 2015

Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined 87%
Numbers at a glance: Marlin73%, Dorado 6%, Other 20%

UntitledBILLFISH: This week we saw a marked improvement in the Cabo fishery, as striped marlin finally put in a steady appearance. The area in front of Cabeza de Ballena the 95 spot and the 11.50 sport, all on the Cortez side is where the marlin could be found and on most days enticed to bite. The few boats that did not achieve a catch did see and bait fish, but they were not always hungry. On April 20th C Rod had an outstanding day catching and releasing five striped marlin and boating a wahoo for Greg Kent. This same day Listo released four marlin ranging in size from a tiny 60 lb. fish up to a 120 lb’er the largest they caught, for John Nelson and friends from Woodbury, Minnesota. This same group went out a couple of days later, this time aboard Cabolero and again released four marlin, this time a little larger in the 120 to 140 lb. class, all caught on caballito (green jacks).Earlier in the week it was the Ruthless that released four marlin from 100 to 120 lbs. on a combination of bait and lures for Kim & Paul Salceda from California. The fishing stayed concentrated in this area producing catches of one to three billfish for seventy three percent of our charters giving us a total of 82 striped marlin and our best week for this species so far this year.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to April 24, 2015

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
San Jose del Cabo

Anglers –
April 24, 2015

DSC_0425With weather conditions now ideal, hard to say why crowds of visiting tourists remain light, the climate is perfect, mostly clear sunny skies, with high temperatures up to 85 degrees.
Winds fluctuated, calm through most of the week, increasing late week.

The bite for yellowfin tuna and wahoo was the highlight for local San Jose del Cabo fleets, also there was much improved action for striped marlin found on local fishing grounds. Supplies of sardinas were betting netting near San Luis, though in recent days the commercial pangeros found less quantities compared to previous weeks, these batfish have been the bait of choice for the yellowfin tuna. Quality yellowfin ranging from 25 to 50 pounds have been testing the limits of angler’s light to medium equipment. The most productive grounds have switched from north of Vinorama, back south to the Iman Bank, but beware of the pesky sea lions, who have been getting more than their share of hooked tuna. With some larger sized tuna now in the mix another option for bait has been chihuil, which of course all gamefish will feed on, particularly wahoo. Some wahoo hit on ballyhoo or trolled Rapalas, but many more were taken on either chihuil or sardinas, sizes ranged up to 40 lb. The action for the tuna changed more towards later in the morning, early through mid- week was very good, Friday the
north wind picked up and all around action was limited.

Pretty quiet around JC office over the last few days. All the autograph signing over Spring Break wore old JC out. All that stuff about being an ebook author and new book coming out. What was that stupid book you have coming out? “As the Admiral Sea it, Recipes from My Heart”Whats that all about JC: You cant even cook Bacon and Eggs!!! I had breakfast with you and you screwed up the Hot Cakes!! That beer batter you used for the cakes was more BEER than anything!! You tried to impress me by showing how to cook eggs on the hood of your car in that hot Cabo sun!! Well I want impressed, eggs had dirt in them.
I have one other thing to say:“Dont you ever call me Little Man again!!! Not sure where that comes from, Im 6,3 and your 5,8? Ive said: what I have to say!! I am going to write that so called report you hired me to write.

WEATHER: It has been pretty darn good over the last week with most days in the mid to ladder 80,s and lows in the 60,s at night. We can’t get much better than that really. Not a lot of wind just a little breeze in the afternoons, but as far as fishing goes, it has been some pretty smooth seas making it a nice ride when out sport fishing.

Cabo Fish Report April 13 to April 19, 2015

FLY HOOKER SPORTFISHING

gmlandrum@hotmail.com http://www.flyhooker.com http://captgeo.wordpress.com/
Cabo Fish Report
April 13 – 19, 2015

WEATHER: What a great week we had! With daytime lows ranging from 68 to 73 degrees and the daytime highs from 78 to 87 degrees it was comfortable all the time. We had a bit of cloud cover during Thursday, Friday and part of Saturday but since the winds never did get too strong it was still nice out. Everyone thought for a while that we might get some rain due to the clouds, but they were high and moving so nothing dropped on us.

WATER: The water this week did not change from what we were seeing last week as far as temperatures go with the Pacific side showing at 73 degrees within 4 to 5 miles of the beach, dropping to 71-72 degrees farther out than that. Also, the water close to the beach was a bit off color compared to the cooler water offshore. On the Cortez side of the Cape the water is showing at 76-77 degrees with an occasional spot of 78 degrees, and the water is a bit cleaner than on the Pacific side. The currents have weakened a bit and that plume of cool water that extended from the tip of the Cape towards the southeast has started to collapse and warm a bit, as well as drift a bit to the west, most likely due to the weaker currents.

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT MARCH 04th TO APRIL 17th, 2015

PISCES FISH REPORT
APRIL 4th to 17th, 2015

Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined 79%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 54%, Dorado 12%, Other 49%

UntitledBILLFISH: This report covers two weeks as we were unable to get one out last week, as we were having too much fun enjoying the Sea of Cortez. Inconsistency has been the watch word for the last two months and the first part of this reports seemed to follow the same vein but as we entered the latter half of this report, things turned around and we started to see multiple marlin catches on a regular basis. It may be to do with the weather, as we started to have some colder nights Marlin were seen with more frequency, though they were not always hungry. Tracy Ann our 31 ft. Bertram was easily our top boat this report. This was the crew that kicked the door open on April 8th, when they released five striped marlin for Bob Schneider from Youngstown, Ohio fishing at the 95 spot.   They followed up a few days later with five marlin and four skipjacks at the Cerros de Arena for Brad & Robert Dickinson from Washington and then went on to release four marlin up to 160 lbs. plus a dorado for Daniel Alonzi & friends from Lone Tree, Colorado. As if this was not enough the finished the week with another five marlin at the 11.50 spot for Mark, Cary & Saul Farber from Miami.

At San Jose, my daughter, Heather and I had time to fish a day (April 8, 2015) out of San Jose del Cabo with a flyrod and we did well on the Gordo Banks. We fished with Captain Angel on one of the Cabo Playa pangas, and he found fish for us.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to April 17, 2015

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
San Jose del Cabo

Anglers –
April 17, 2015

TerryGordonTUna Crowds of tourists are lighter now that spring break has wound down, the visitors that are arriving to Los Cabos are enjoying great all around weather conditions, ideal climate now, scattered cloud cover, though plenty of sunshine, high temperatures around 85 degrees. With the exception of last weekend, when on Sunday the wind blew heavily out of the north, since then days have been much calmer, still unpredictable from day to day this time of year.

Ocean water temperatures fluctuated from 72 to 76 degrees throughout most of the region, swells were moderate and supplies of sardinas were sufficient, being netted by the commercial fleet near San Luis. Anglers found the most consistent action from areas near Vinorama, San Luis and Iman Bank. Last Saturday there was a wide open bite reported from the Tule area, just north of Vinorama, this is a longer than normal run for local charter fleets, though the action was centered very close to shore. Yellowfin tuna in the 30 pound class was the mainstay of daily catches, though there were dorado and wahoo mixed in. Drift fishing with sardinas for bait was the most productive technique. The very next day, on Sunday, high winds made conditions extremely difficult and also stirred up the sea, slowing the bite for a couple of days. Then the action improved by mid-week, before tapering off once again later in the week. Definitely an up and down deal, though conditions remain favorable and anything could happen on any given day.
