Cabo Fish Report
March 23, 2015 – March 29, 2015

WEATHER: Once again the weather could not have been better! It did start to get a bit on the warm side late in the week and we had temperatures reach 93 degrees on Saturday, but the early morning hours were almost always in the high 60’s. Of course it was sunny and we saw very few clouds. We did have a few days where the winds picked up to around 15 knots in the afternoon, but most of the early mornings were tickled with very light breezes.

WATER: There is no predicting what we will wake up to every day when it comes to the conditions on the ocean. Last week is not a good indicator of what is to come it appears, and that is just not normal. We usually see a progression, steady and slow, as the water warms or cools. Not this year though. I have been hoping for more cool water to bring down the bait and the Marlin offshore and the Sierra and Yellowtail inshore, but instead we have seen the water warm up. Difficult for me to understand since we have had strong currents from the northwest that should have brought in the cooler water. Instead, this week we saw the near-shore waters on the Pacific side warm up to 74 degrees while the water at the San Jaime and Golden Gate Banks was a warm 75 degrees. On the Cortez side of the Cape it was even warmer with the near-shore and offshore waters at 75-76 degrees. Well, I guess I do understand it a little bit since we have had swells (4-6 feet) coming from the southerly directions this week, and last week the warmer water was to the south and the currents were not as strong. The clarity of the water was fair with an occasional patch of clean blue water, but for the most part, particular inshore, the water was a bit cloudy, perhaps due to the churning of the surf.

Well JC seemed a little under the weather this past week! Seems as if the fishing gods had not come to town and only springbreakers. With fishing being so slow JC vowed to lock him self in his room and not come out till fishing got better, and thats what he did? I went by to see him and,  He screamed: “ I aint taking any visitors especially you”He said: How do you have time to come check on me when you are supposed to be writing that so called fishing report” So I left and the last I heard him screaming was “Ill come out when the fishing gods return”!!! Great I will come check on you next week I said. Then he said: “dont bother I am the Admiral and your not!!

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.
WEATHER: The weather is really nice, and has been all week, with highs in the mid to ladder 80,s and lows in the low 60,s. Typical great weather over the last week, but it doesn’t seem to have helped the fishing any, as its been pretty slow in all areas.

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT MARCH 21st TO MARCH 27th, 2015

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
MARCH 21ST TO 27TH, 2015

Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined 62%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 38%, Dorado 7%, Other 38%

Untitled BILLFISH: It was definitely feast of famine this week but we can see the fishing is gradually getting better. More boats reported spotting multiple marlin but generally had a hard time getting them interested in bait. On the other hand we had some boats that did exceptionally well. Catch of the week has to go to Tracy Ann and for anglers Jason Jones, Steve Hawkins & Fred Gabel from Chico, California. On March 26th this trio was fishing at Cerros de Arena on the Pacific side when they hooked a black marlin – very unusual for this time of year- the fish was estimated at 210 lbs. and released healthy; they then went on to release two striped marlin in the 60 to 100 lbs. class. All three fish took like caballito –t hanks guys for releasing all three fish. Not far behind Tracy Ann this week was the ever popular Rebecca who had an outstanding day on March 25th for a group from Oceanside, California, when they released FOUR striped marlin between Margaritas and Los Arcos. The fish were between 80 and 110 lbs. and were hooked on live bait. Another boat that did very well earlier in the week was La Brisa with Bart Findley and friends on board from Blue Springs, Mo. They went up quite a way up the Sea of Cortez coastline, to Destiladeras where they managed to release three striped marlin in the 60 to 130 lb. class. These catches show that the marlin are on the small side, so it looks like there are a lot of juveniles around. There were several boats that had double marlin days though quite a lot of boats were “skunked” too. These catches give us hope that the billfish catches will stabilize soon and become more consistent as the watchword lately has been “inconsistent”. Pisces anglers caught a total of 35 billfish this week with 34 released.

Anglers –
March 27, 2015

20150324_130118

The spring season is a great time of year to enjoy all that the Los Cabos Area has to offer. The climate is now ideal, lots of sunshine, low temperatures in the 60s and highs in the upper 80s. Winds can still be a bit unpredictable, though the persistent northerly winds are not nearly as relentless as during the winter months. Ocean conditions were improved, after going through a cooling trend and having clarity fluctuate. Now anglers are reporting very clean water and temperatures averaging 74 to 75 degrees. Still heavy concentrations of whales being seen, though with the progressively warming days, we expect that these whales will be migrating back north soon.

Fishing action has been changing from week to week, not an overabundance of billfish being found offshore now, no large concentrations of baitfish for these fish to feed on. Only a scattering of striped marlin, these fish had been found mainly 20 some miles offshore, but this past week we have seen marlin moving much closer to shore, traveling in the warmer clean currents, searching for a food source. Except around the certain high spots where skipjack have dominated the food chain. Bait sellers have been working hard to net sardinas in the surf zone near Vinorama, most days they were able to find sufficient supplies, though there were a few days where the combination of higher swells and early morning low tides made for dangerous navigation and resulted in limited bait resources.

Cabo Fish Report

March 16, 2015 – March 22, 2015

WEATHER: I love it here this time of year! Our highs for the week were in the high 80’s and the lows in the high 60’s. Clear skies and light winds made it perfect to be out on the water fishing. If only the fish would co-operate a bit more it would be perfect, sigh. One unusual thing happened that I have never seen here before, and that was hail in San Jose. Actually I have never seen hail here anywhere at all, but early this week there was a patch of weather that moved through and it brought some rain, gusty winds and hail north of us, and there were waterspouts reported offshore. All of that was fast passing through though, for the rest of the week the weather was fine!

WATER: There was a little bit of change this week from last week as the water continued to clear up a bit. There was warm 76 degree water 30 miles to the south-east, the water was 72 degrees inside of that, and all up along the Pacific coast, at least as far as the charter boats have been going. On the Cortez side of the cape it is a bit warmer at 74 degrees outside of San Jose. It appears that the warmer the water, the clearer it is so we can look for an improvement in clarity as currents push that warm 76 degree water toward us (maybe).

With the weather settling back down and fleets scouting out any new opportunities, on Friday the season’s first big bite on yellowtail developed, this was on the Outer Gordo Bank, where anglers were hooking into a quality grade of yellowtail while using various from of whole and cut baits, even chunks of ballyhoo were working.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report to March 20, 2015

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
San Jose del Cabo

Anglers –
March 20, 2015

TyMeasonCatch We are now officially starting the spring season and progressively warming conditions are feeling actually a bit tropical. Crazy unpredictable patterns this past week, over the last weekend we saw thunderstorms develop and on Sunday there was a couple of inches of rainfall measured that fell in a matter of an hour, accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning. There was also hail storms that were associated with these thunderstorms and ice accumulated on the ground, giving people a rare chance to create ice balls. Strange to have hail falling one moment, then tropical conditions later on the same day, there were also water spouts reportedly seen offshore on the fishing grounds at the start of the week.

Last weekend the great bite for yellowfin tuna and dorado became very tough and scattered, with only a few fish being accounted for, charters were lucky to catch a few fish in combination during a morning trip. This dire situation included inshore, bottom and offshore action, things had gone from very good to slim pickings just like that. Hard to say for what reason, though the rapidly changing weather patterns and scarcity of sardinas were certainly a contributing factors. The commercial fleet were having to fight higher surf conditions along the rocky shoreline near Vinorama where the schools of sardinas were holding and on some days were not able to get any. Other bait options for anglers were caballito, ballyhoo, skipjack and chihuil. Bait situation can become tough at times, availability had been steady, now things are a bit more scattered, day to day as to what might be available..

Fly Hooker Cabo Fish Report March 09 to 15, 2015

FLY HOOKER SPORTFISHING
Captain George Landrum
gmlandrum@hotmail.com http://www.flyhooker.comhttp://captgeo.wordpress.com/
Cabo Fish Report
March 9, 2015 – March 15, 2015

WEATHER: Good morning everyone, and hello from mostly sunny Cabo San Lucas! We did have a few days this week with overcast skies and yesterday (Saturday the 14th) we actually had a spit of rain from some weather that moved on top of us from the north. Heavy clouds with some lightning and thunder gave pause to those looking to golf, go to the beach or head out on the water, but it all moved away overnight. This week our daytime highs reached 88 degrees while the daytime lows dropped to 65. Those heavy clouds from yesterday also caused a short lasting shift in the wind and it blew from the south rather hard for about four hours, a few boats had to battle the elements on the way in from up the Pacific side. For the majority of the week we had great weather, so good that if it was like this all year round we would be overcrowded!
WATER: The water continues to cool down a little at a time, which is good news for our typical winter fish, but is chasing away the warm water fish we still have lurking about. The coldest water around is at 68 degrees and covers the area between the Golden Gate Bank to the San Jaime Bank just south of the Golden. Inshore along the same area it is almost 70 degrees while the shore area to the north and south is 72 degrees. Water to the south of us is the warmest in the area at 73 degrees close to shore and rising to 75 degrees farther out at 20+ miles. On the Cortez side of the Cape within 20 miles of the beach it has been a consistent 73 degrees. Water clarity has improved across the area and we were seeing very few of the green bands this week. This banding normally happens as our water changes from cool to warm or the other way around with the cool water holding more plankton and chlorophyll, thus the greener water.
BAIT: Bait this week started to include some Mackerel, which is a good sign for the upcoming few months as these baitfish signal the cooling water and hopefully the return of the Striped Marlin. Most of the bait however has been Caballito and Green Jacks, like last week. There are also Sardinas now available from the commercial boats in San Jose.
