GORDO BANKS PANGAS – Anglers – October 31, 2014

We are now in the peak Fall Season, normally a very bustling period for the Los Cabos area. This year the situation is much different, as many Resorts are still in the rebuilding stage and combined with changing airline schedules, has contributed to below normal capacity level crowds of tourists, as try to find available flights and accommodations. By the coming New Year we do expect to see many more resorts reopening their doors to tourists. For the time being we are seeing more visitors arrive, just not like we would normally expect to see.

BILLFISH: It was great to finally have anglers around the marina in more than a trickle and thankfully the fishing did not disappoint with multiple marlin catches and good amounts of smaller game. Andrea got us off to a good start, when the crew helped Mark Pyle and his team Sasquatch, from Washington, catch and release four striped marlin and boat a dorado on October 18th, whilst La Brisa followed up with three marlin releases this same day.

Fish Report for the Week of the 16th thru the 23 of October, 2014

Finally we started chartering some pangas after Hurricane Odile.  Such a strong experience to be in Cabo through the strongest hurricane to ever hit this area.  In a devastated town that got back on its feet in under month, unbelievable hard work from everybody to get this place running, truly an amazing experience.  Activity picking up slowly, with some tourists starting to enjoy Cabo and Sport fishing with a slow week considering the situation, and with hurricane Odile affecting our sea conditions, fishing was pretty good with lots of Bill Fish and Dorado to go around, species biting are Bonita, Rooster, Needle Fish, Skip Jack and Spanish Mackerel.

Pancho, expert fish snatcher, surprises these anglers aboard Pisces Tiburon

BILLFISH: It’s great to finally have something to write about as boats gradually begin to get out fishing after the hurricane. Fisherman are hardy, not easily deterred by and are slowly trickling back into Cabo to take advantage of the fabulous fishing that the month of October offers. Some of the first anglers to visit Cabo, came all the way from Denmark; Henrik Buhl had fished all over the world trying to catch a blue marlin on what had been a 25 year mission, but all it took was for him to come to Cabo to realize his dream. He released his 150 lb blue along with a sailfish at Punta Gorda, aboard Pisces La Brisa on October 9th. Florida anglers Christopher Clark, Kevin Barnett & Rich Mitchell had an amazing time aboard our new 31 ft Bertram Tiburon on October 13th , when they released four striped marlin and caught fifteen dorado, of which five were released and one was stolen by Pancho the sea lion.

Anglers –

We are now finally officially back in operation, as today we were connected once again to phone and Internet services. The long absence of not making any updates was all because we had no connection. We are now back operating fishing charters based out of the same panga area as before Hurricane Odile made a mess out of our marina basin. Work conditions are a bit rough, but we are making due and progress has been remarkable, as everyone is putting in extra efforts in this rebuilding phase. Limited numbers of charters have been departing, as flights from the U.S. have just resumed. Local infrastructure is making rapid advancements. Grocery stores are stocked, gasoline and diesel readily available, highways open, traffic signals working, Resorts are rebuilding, many have reopened already and most will be by the New Year.

They also qualified to compete at the Offshore World Championship in Quepos, Costa Rica in April. All in all it was some good fish days with lots of fun being had by all..

We are so glad for this and for you guys who have supported us and looked over the fishing report the last 2 and a half years we are grateful. This week we have had some fisherman show up to town and we are starting to get back to our normal routine of catching fish and offering one of the best Sport Fishing Charters in Los Cabos. Now on with the report.
WEATHER: The weather has been absolutely great with highs in the ladder to mid 80,s and lows droping down into the adder to low 70,s. Well as I write this you can feel that north wind blowing and its pretty cool over the last 2 nights really. You can definitely feel a change in weather and it wont come to soon with this summer being one of the longest and hottest I have ever felt here in Cabo and then on top of that we had Odile which really made it a long summer but we are beginning to see some light.

WATER: We still have really warm water on both the Sea of Cortez side and Pacific side also. The water temperature averages 83 to 85 degrees, which is pretty warm still but good for Marlin and Dorado fishing. Go to this link which will show you water temperatures for the southern half of Baja.
BILLFISH: The Marlin are all over the place but slow to bite as we baited 10 yesterday and only had one fish landed on Cabailltos. Most of the fish are one to three miles off the Light House and up to inside the San Jamie Banks. Today the Bob Marlin caught 2 Sailfish and one Tuna over 40lbs at Rancho Migrino and I have also hear of some small Blue Marlin caught and released this week.
