Pisces Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report – June 14th to 20th, 2014

Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined 86%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 71%, Dorado 34%, Tuna  26%, Other 14%

Pisces Fish Report 1BILLFISH: This week we had some really good catches for mixed billfish with catch rates at a respectable rate. Full moon at the start of this period was believed to be the determining factor for some boats getting “skunked”, but nevertheless we are starting to see the variety of billfish caught in summer.  As we get into the hotter months we expect blue marlin to start showing up, generally smaller ones to begin with, then by the time we get to October tournament time is here and so are the really big fish. That said Pisces Ruthless had what would have been a tournament size fish on June 19th, caught by Joshua Wallace from Rathdrum, Idaho. This blue marlin was right around 300 lbs and took a green & yellow lure at the 11.50 spot. Fishing with Bryan Ward, he was lucky enough to release a small striped marlin too and boat six yellow fin tuna. This wasn’t the only blue; the following day encourage by Ruthless’ catch Pisces Valerie headed out to the same spot and using the same color lure also hooked a blue marlin, though smaller in size, which was released for Eddie Spetz from Menifee, California – six tuna were also boated by this angler. Pisces Cabolero fought a 140 lb swordfish for forty minutes after it took a like caballito off of the Old Lighthouse on June 17th, angler Jonathan Albro from Steamboat Springs, Colorado saw the fish sunning itself on the surface aided by the deckhand’s sharp eyes and thought he had one of the most sought after billfish, however the fish broke the line at the gaff and escaped; not to be discouraged though, the crew did manage to release a striped marlin for him. Pisces Listo had the best striped marlin day on June 14th with four caught and released up to 150 . . . . .  Read the complete Pisces Sportfishing Cabo Fish Report at LosCabosGuide.com

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.

WEATHER: The weather has been really good but very hot over the past week andI think there is a little disturbance down south of us but really not much chance of forming into something. It has been really hot though so if you are coming to Cabo you better brace for the heat and bring your sun screen. Highs close to the 100,s and lows in the 70,s.

WATER: Quite a drastic change in water temperatures like from Cabo up the pacific side its all water from 71 to 72 up to 76 and then from Cabo towards San Jose a huge change in temperatures 80 to 86 even up in the Sea of Cortez. WOW its quite drastic if you look at the Tempbreak map I have provided.

http://www.tempbreak.com/index.php?&cwregion=cb
It looks as if it is a little cooler compared to what it has been but really pretty normal for this time of year. We will see the temperatures go up over the next 2 weeks I am sure. W will wait and see as as you know the water temperature will affect what we are catching and just the fishing in general.

TUNA: The Tuna bite has been off and on with some Tuna being caught outside of the St Jamie Banks near Porpoise schools and being landed on cedar plugs and king busters. This all happened at the beginning of the week and we expected it to continue but then the green water moved intothat area and the bite changed for the worse, just some blind strikes wee reported after that. . . . Read the complete JC’s Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report at LosCabosGuide.com

They were out on Listo on June 10th & released an approxmate 200 lb blue marlin, two striped marlin and boated a dorado. June 11th was a good day too, when Pisces Rebecca release five striped marlin for Gordon Clark and friends from California, who also caught a 26 lb tuna. Other boats caught between one and four marlin each, but catches were not always easy. We had windy weather then it got super hot as a hurricane formed south of Baja, causing huge waves for the last couple of days of this report. GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report June 13, 2014

GORDO BANKS PANGAS San Jose del Cabo Fish Report June 13, 2014
Anglers –

JanetNEXT FISH REPORT WILL NOT BE POSTED UNTIL FIRST WEEK OF JULY

Last week we saw a cold Pacific current sweep in as far north as Los Frailes, this dropped ocean water temperatures down into the 68 degree range, relentless south winds contributed to turning the water a greenish color and scattered the fishing action to few and very far between. The climate was a very pleasant though, as the cool Pacific air was refreshing. Now once again we have had a complete turnaround of conditions, with the months second major Hurricane forming, Cristina developed off the mainland and is presently following a path which will bring the system within a few hundred miles of the Southern Baja Peninsula. This has pushed ocean temperatures back up to 82 degrees, clean blue water close to shore and high swells of 8 to 10 feet. Coinciding with the full moon, there was a very high surge on the evening tide. Looks like this is all the impact we will feel, high humidity, some increasing late afternoon southern wind and a small chance of isolated showers, high swells are forecast to taper off starting on Saturday.

So we do have great water conditions now, though swells are high and the current is swift, still making for spread out sporadic action. Though there were encouraging signs in the past couple of days, a variety of fish are in the area and we have seen the roosterfish bite pick back up after having come to a standstill, anglers trolling with caballito and moonfish had great action on roosterfish to 50 pounds along the beach stretches north of Punta Gorda. After this swell resides it should be a great time to target the inshore dogtooth snapper action. We have noticed more mullet activity along the shore, this attracts more of the inshore gamefish and this is big amberjack season as well. A handful of very impressive fish were landed by . . . Read the complete Gordo Banks Pangas Fishing Report at LosCabosGuide.com

Well school is out for summer and I think it is going to get really busy this year. Please make your reservations a little sooner if you plan on coming down in the summer time as I expect we are going to be very busy this season. It is the time of year for all the big Blue and Black Marlin to move into the area so we are getting prepaired for the busy out of school season.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. WEATHER: The weather has been really nice with days in the ladder 80,s to lo 90,s and lows in the mid 60,s. We have had some nice breezes in the evenings so it has cooled things off a bit compared to last week. Recipe: Pan Seared Grouper with a White Wine Lemon Butter Sauce with Capers and Artichoke Hearts – From the Admirals Kitchen

This is a delicious and easy entrée for date night or for a dinner party. The sauce can be made ahead and all you have to do is sear the grouper, when ready to serve top with the sauce and you have a restaurant quality meal in no time.  Lemon Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil . I love using infused oils because it has a smoother flavor that a drizzle of juice from a fresh lemon just won’t do and you will be delighted with the flavor and the gourmet quality it adds to any dish you create. Ingredient amounts will serve two.

Pisces Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report – May 24th to June 6th, 2014

Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined 88%

BILLFISH: This fish report covers a two week period, as we were at our new secret location last week; an undiscovered & incredible Baja fishery where we shall begin operations shortly.   The Cabo fishery remained robust this period with plenty of striped marlin, sharks and even a few sailfish making an appearance, all this despite a sudden sharp drop in water temperatures around Land’s End, where satellite images show a distinct cold pocket of water. Nevertheless a lot of boats did well, as they headed out to the temperature breaks and found in the most part smaller stripers. At the start of this period boats headed into the Sea of Cortez and fished the 11.50 spot, which is where Jeremy Ross, released four marlin in the 120 to 130 lb. class aboard Pisces Ruthless. The next day out this same boat released two marlin plus a 70 lb. sailfish for anglers from Austin, Texas. Catches increased slightly and on May 26th Mark Chiavetta had six to the boat (Bill Collector) up to 150 lbs., which were successfully released.  Next day out it was five released for 28 ft. Adriana and anglers Brent Crafton & the Watters brothers. Hayden Watson from Bend, Oregon caught and released five striped marlin on May 29th ranging from 60 to 110 lbs. aboard Pisces Listo. At the end of May, the temperature dropped and boats headed in the other direction up to the Pacific where more free swimming marlin were found mixed in with dorado and smaller game. Pisces Rebecca was the one to hit gold off of Cerritos, with six marlin released for Billy & Diego Lagarde, Jorge Sanchez, Luis Garcia – just shows we go wherever the fish are. This same day Pisces Listo headed to Golden Gate and released four marlin & a pilot shark as well as boating a nice 40 lb. dorado. The fish were not as concentrated as they had been on the Cortez side being found from the Old Lighthouse to Golden Gate.  Sixty two percent of our boats caught billfish resulting in catches of 139 striped marlin & 5 sailfish – all but two marlin were released.

OTHER SPECIES: We had plenty of action on smaller game this week and it was nice to see the tuna finally making an appearance which should have happened in April. The cooler water also brought a surge in inshore catches for species such as rooster fish, jack crevalle, skipjack and amberjack. The roosters were from 10 to as large as a 46 lb’er caught aboard Andre by Roger Skaggs and were found off of the . . . . .  Read the complete Pisces Sportfishing Cabo Fish Report at LosCabosGuide.com

GORDO BANKS PANGAS Fish Report June 6, 2014

GORDO BANKS PANGAS San Jose del Cabo Fish Report June 6, 2014
Anglers –

ParkerWahooWe are in the later part of the spring season, with moderate sized crowds of tourists now visiting, this is always the time when families are busy finishing school semesters, preparing for graduations, summer adventures, etc. Local weather patterns made a complete circle this past week. We had just seen the season’s first Hurricane form to the south of Cabo San Lucas, Amanda, this system pushed tropical humid air over the Southern Baja, stormy conditions which never amounted to much, besides some higher ocean swells, in recent days we are feeling strong southerly winds push cooler Pacific air and ocean currents in the direction of the Sea of Cortez. There is much marine moisture, creating morning clouds, being swept away by gusting winds later in the day.

Ocean water temperature in the past couple of days has plummeted from 80 plus degrees, to 72 degrees throughout the inshore region from Cabo San Lucas to Los Frailes, some 10 to 15 miles offshore of Vinorama to La Frailes is where the 80 degree temperature break is now lurking. This colder current is a dirty greenish color as well, unfavorable conditions contributed to scattered much of the baitfish and gamefish from this zone. As conditions settle, conditions will rebound, as this is the time of year where things can change quickly overnight.

There are many species of gamefish that have been encountered in local waters this spring, though none of the species have been particularly abundant, with the exception of the offshore action for the striped marlin, which at times was very. . . Read the complete Gordo Banks Pangas Fishing Report at LosCabosGuide.com
