JC’s Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Let’s get on with the report for this past week.

WEATHER: The weather has been actually a little warmer than normal for this time of year. What winter we have here in Cabo has been  really nonexistent so far this year with temperatures above average. I would say today it was pushing 85 to 90 degrees.

WATER: Cooler water temperatures this past week hasn¹t changed the good fishing we are still catching Dorado, Tuna and of course Striped Marlin. . . . Click here to read the complete JC’s Sportfishing fish report

Pisces Sportfishing Cabo Fish Report, January 17 to 24

PISCES SPORTFISHING WEEKLY FISH REPORT
January 17th to January 24th, 2014
Overall Catch Success Rate All Species Combined: 92%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 48%, Tuna 40%, Dorado 32%, Other 16%

Pisces Sportfishing Sailfish catch.

BILLFISH: Fishing was really good in Cabo this week and although striped marlin catches edged out the other species as the most likely catch, sheer numbers of tuna beat them by far. This made for great fishing because not only did close to half the boats catch marlin, they could also load up on tuna and even dorado which made a brief comeback. No doubt about who took top honors for striped marlin; Pisces C Rod caught and released eight in one day for Nate Springer, Kevin Vivian & James Lambard on January 19th at  Golden Gate, these same guys also released four marlin the previous day on the same boat.  Other boats caught one to three marlin in the 100 to 160 lb. class. The marlin took live mackerel or frozen ballyhoo and were caught on the Pacific with the Golden Gate area the most productive. Forty eight percent of our charters managed to hook striped marlin. Jamie Price from Minot, North Dakota brought the family for a fishing trip and ended up being the only anglers to catch & release a sailfish a little closer at Migrino aboard Pisces La Brisa. Our total billfish catch this week was 66 marlin and 1 sailfish released.

OTHER SPECIES: It is interesting to see how many large sharks are being caught. For several years shark catches  dropped dramatically but they are making a comeback as we can note in recent catches such as a 100 lb. thresher shark aboard Tracy Ann, a 135 lb’er aboard Fearless, as well as a 145 lb. hammerhead on a panga and an 80 lb. mako aboard Petrolero. These catches are considered special and anglers want to keep them, but hopefully more fishermen will choose to release them as time goes one, even though it is a much more difficult task than releasing marlin. . . . .  Read the complete Pisces Sportfishing Cabo Fish Report at LosCabosGuide.com

WEATHER:  We had partly cloudy skies this week as some high cloud cover moved in early and then cleared on Wednesday, then during the later part of the week some of those clouds that you just know are going to let loose with a little rain but just end up teasing you moved in then out of our area by Saturday.  The weekend was mostly sunny with some early morning cloud cover.  Highs for the week were in the low 80’s while the lows were a balmy 64-65 degrees with a bit of humidity.

WATER:  Water conditions on the Sea of Cortez in our area were very good with swells small at 1-3 feet, the water temperature 74 degrees within 6 miles of the beach and 76 degrees outside of that. Strangely enough, the warmer water was a bit more off-color than the cooler water.  Up farther on the Cortez side the wind began to punish anglers, and if you went north of Punta Gorda you had to be ready for a bumpy ride. On the Pacific side of the Cape the week started with swells at 1-3 feet and as the week progressed so did the swells.  They were not closely spaced but by this morning we were seeing 4-6 foot swells causing a surf of 8-12 feet.  We are thankful that the wind has remained down and there has been very little wind chop and swell on top of this ground swell.  The water temperature on the Pacific side has remained in the 76 degree range all week with slightly cooler water showing to the north of the Golden Gate Banks.  The water has also been a clean blue color almost everywhere, not a deep purple summer color, but nice and clean.

BAIT:  Plenty of both Mackerel and Caballito were available this week at the normal $3 per bait.  I did not hear of any Sardinas being available.  . . . Read the complete Fly Hooker Sportfishing Cabo Fish Report on LosCabosGuide.com.

Weekly Fish Report- January 24, 2014

For as long as I can remember Richard Leucht and his gang of guys have made their way to Cabo to chase the fish. They are back again fishing 3 days and are having a great time. With the Stripers gathering on the Golden Gate Bank the crew of the “Picante Express” put them on the fish. They ended the day releasing 6 Striped Marlin. Glad to see these guys back in town.  WEATHER: Realy nice typical Cabo weather  this past week. It has cooled in the evenings but in the day time temperatures are in the 80,s. Honestly perfect weather for fishing and all the activities we have here in Los Cabos.

WATER: It has cooled down somewhat but fishing is still decent even with the cooler water conditions. Normally fishing would have slowed a bit but it is still really good and I am not just saying that either. On the pacific side it is about 5 or 6 degrees colder than on the Sea Of Cortez side but the action has been up there on the pacific side so that’s where we will be going to get to the fish. Bad Medicine’s Fishing Report January 16, 2014

Bad Medicine Sport Fishing Cabo Fishing Report January 16, 2014bm fr

Winter conditions are setting in here in Cabo, and along with that comes the annual migration of Striped Marlin. The bite has been incredible off the light house on the Pacific side. Many boats are hooking 5-10 Marlin per day on live bait fished deep. Golden Gate bank on the Pacific has also started with its Striped Marlin bite. Lots of fish hitting live bait fished down deep. The Yellowfin Tuna have also shown up! Large schools have been found near Jaime Bank and off the lighthouse 15-20 miles out. We are filling coolers quickly with some killer shashimi! Lots of dorado have been mixed in with the Marlin. The Pacific has been hot for Dorado action near shore all the way up to Todos Santos.

WEATHER:  We had wonderful weather this week with our lows in the high 50’s and the highs in the mid 80’s.  The skies remained mostly sunny except for a bit of overcast on Saturday and while the wind did blow a bit in the evenings it was pretty nice and mellow during the daytime.  No rain of course!

WATER:  Water temperatures on the Sea of Cortez side were 73-74 degrees except for some warm water around the 1150 and Seamount area where it warmed up a bit to 74-75 degrees.  The water was a bit off-color in the 73-74 degree area.  Surface conditions on the side were very good with swells small at 1-3 feet and no wind chop until either the late afternoon or if you went up past Punta Gorda to the north.  On the Pacific side of the peninsula the water was 73-74 degree almost anywhere you went, and the water was a lot cleaner than the Sea of Cortez side.  Surface conditions were great as well with swells at 2-4 feet but spaced far apart.  Around mid-afternoon during the later part of the week the wind picked up a bit and made for some choppy conditions, but there was no issue with the fishing being affected.

BAIT:  There are more Mackerel available than there were last week and this trend should continue as the water becomes cooler every week.  A mix of Mackerel and Caballito were the normal bait purchase this week.  The price continued to be steady at $3 U.S. Per bait, and if the boat you were on was buying from the same bait boat all the time, often a bag or chunk of ice was included in the purchase.  . . .
