BILLFISH: Wow, what a week! As most of you know Bisbee took place this past week and we have written a lot about it already, but not everybody enters the big bucks competition, so how did our regular clients do? In one word, fabulous. We had some of the best catches of the year, starting with Pisces Rebecca with a 566 LB blue marlin the day before the Bisbee Tournament, for angler George Hansen from Idaho Falls. Captain Jose Ramon saw the fish jump a mile away and thought it was a manta ray, as they got closer he realized it was a blue marlin that was feeding and quickly dropped back a tuna they had boated earlier in the day.  George went to work and after about an hour, the crew realized there was something wrong; the fish had died. They pulled in the line by hand to find that the leader had wrapped around the tail, meaning the fish had been pulled backwards and drowned. Next day Giles Patterson from Cincinnati was fishing aboard Pisces La Brisa and was having fun with his group setting out cedar plugs and pulling in school size tuna. As he was reeling in a 15 lb. tuna, a huge marlin emerged from the depths and swallowed his tuna, cedar plug and all. Giles puffed away for over four hours until the fish could not be seen and was not reacting; the marlin had expired and again they guys had to hand line it up. To their surprise it was much bigger than they thought tipping the scales at 591 LBS. Next day out, it was another 31 ft. Bertram this time Pisces Tracy Ann, that had a blue marlin, but they were successful in releasing the approximately 360 LB fish.  Read the complete Pisces Weekly Fish Report on LosCabosGuide.com

JC’s Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report October 27, 2013

As the Admiral Seas It

Cabo Fishing Report: 10/21/13 to 10/27/13

JC’s Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun.

WATER: The water has been really nice and blue as of lately with water temperatures in the lower 80,s to high 70,s. With the calm weather and sunny days we expect the water to stay nice with swells 1 to 3 feet on the Sea of Cortez side and 2 to 4 feet on the pacific side.
WEATHER: The weather has been great really with lots of sun and light breezes. Really one of the best times of year to be in Cabo as it is starting to cool down at night and the day time highs are in the mid to upper 80,s and lows dropping down to low 70,s to ladder 60,s.
BILLFISHING: Well the Marlin fishing is good and as you can see there has been some good size fish caught over this past week. I am not a big fan of the fishing tournaments and I know it brings in lots of revenue to the local economy but it sure isn’t good for the Marlin by no means. There was some big fish caught this year and I am really happy for some of my friends who did very well in the tournament by catching a 778 pound Marlin but are we really doing and thinking since these fish take years and years to get to that size and when we take one and kill it its similar to chopping down the  Redwood forest. When these fish are gone there gone they will never be another one like it and they don’t grow back that fast. I am starting to wonder if our oceans can sustain this sort of thing. I am not sure the oceans can keep up with what is being taken from them and I am wondering what is going to be left for my kids and theres. Well enough of this rambling I think each and everyone of us has to make our own decisions on preserving our oceans and future.  Read the complete JC’s Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report at LosCabosGuide.com

Bisbee’s Black & Blue 2013 Tournament Recap

pisces-sport-fishing-caboJoy was evident in the voice of Captain Kevin “Cubby” Pahl captain of the 60 ft. Hatteras II Success, when we reached him by phone the day after his team had landed the winning 774 LB fish, in the Bisbee Black & Blue Tournament – the second largest qualifier in the competition’s 33 year history.

As tends to happen in the world’s richest billfish tournament, everybody was kept guessing right up until the end, especially as Martha McNab, a well know local woman angler looked set to be a shoo in to be the first ever female to win the Super Bowl of fishing, with her 525 LB blue marlin caught on day two of the three day event. That milestone was to be reached, but surprisingly not by Martha, but by Linda Williams from Rancho Cucamonga, California. Read the complete Pisces Weekly Fish Report on LosCabosGuide.com

Cabo Magic Sportfishing Fish Report, October 27, 2013

cabo-magic-sportfishing-2a-300x1384Good morning! October 27, 2013
Cabo Magic Sportfishing Cabo Fish Report October 16 to 27, 2013

I am preparing a summary to cover and include all VIP Guests catch results from Oct 5 thru Oct 26th. and life and new business continues to take priority position, that’s why we love posting photos, and they are forever viewable on our VIP Guest Photos pages. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

And, to address the question received via numerous emails and a few calls: From time to time the decision is made to remove/add boat/s from/to our representation. This decision is made based upon numerous factors:

(1) VIP Guest Feedback – that’s why we ask you to let us know how your trip went – we want to hear the good, the bad, the outstanding, the specifics from your perspective.
(2) Tommy periodically inspects boats/tackle/gear.
(3) Changes in vessel ownership. Ever since we began representing other vessels, arranging charters for them, in addition to the boats we personally owned 100% (35′ Bertram CABO MAGIC® and 31′ CABO MAGIC® Dos), the owner and we must be on the same page when it comes to how we conduct business. That isn’t to say there are different techniques and ideas, however, we are diligent in our procedures in order to ensure a unique CABO MAGIC® experience for all VIP Guests.
(4) Crew changes. Tommy used to be the decision maker for crew selection, and is still involved in the process. However, there are some owners who insist on running their ship their own way. Sometimes, a Captain decides to ‘jump ship’ and begin to work on another vessel, and that also influences our decision to represent that particular vessel, or not.

Overall, we are grateful for your interest in how/what/why we conduct our business – 15 years is a long time, even though it feels just like yesterday when we bought the first “CABO MAGIC®”.

Tight lines, blue skies and blue water. Fresh fish and fresh air. Mother Nature and Neptune dancing a waltz, or tango, or pasa doble – is a beautiful thing.

Thanks again for your business – everyone associated with CABO MAGIC® is sincerely grateful for the opportunity to welcome you aboard.  Read the complete Cabo Magic Fish Report at LosCabosGuide.com

Gordo Banks Pangas October 27, 2013

Gordo Banks Pangas Fish Report – October 27, 2013 –S an Jose del Cabo

wahoo-gordo-banks-loscabosLos Cabos is bustling now with visiting anglers and vacationers from various countries, peak fall season is now happening, with high stake tournaments being the main events. Weather conditions are now ideal, as Tropical Storm Raymond remained far to the south, heading on westward path. Southern Baja felt no effects from this system, besides moderately increased swell activity. Days have been clear and sunny, high temperatures in the mid 80s, with lows dropping into the upper 60s, there is a chill in the air early morning, so remember to dress accordingly.

Sportfishing fleets are now very busy and charters have been searching the fishing grounds in all directions to find best possible opportunities. Anglers encountered breezy conditions at times, normal fall patterns, with wind off the land early, then later switching out of the north after the sun comes up, but overall the ocean conditions were favorable, water temperatures averaging 85 degrees from the Golden Gate Bank on the Pacific, all the way to Los Frailes in the Sea of Cortez.  Read the complete Gordo Banks Pangas Fish Report at LosCabosGuide.com

Fly Hooker Fish Report October 20, 2013

fly-hooker-sportfishing-cabo-250x127Cabo Fish Report October 14 to 20, 2013
by Captain George Landrum,
Fly Hooker Sportfishing.

First, an apology for being a day late on my weekly report.  I was fishing in the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament this week and was much too tired to write the report Sunday morning.

WEATHER:  This has been a great weather week, something we look forward to all year long.  Every year, sometime in the middle of October the weather turns perfect with the highs in the mid 80’s, the lows in the mid 70’s and just light winds.  It was this week this year and it was wonderful to sleep with the doors and windows open to the cool night air and not have the humming and noise of the air conditioner going on. We did see just a little rain at the beginning of the week, the tail end of last week brought rain into our area with the passing to the west of Tropical Storm Octave.  It was occasionally heavy, but never lasted for very long, and went a long way toward keeping everything here green and dust free.  As we currently look to the south we can see Hurricane Raymond off of Acapulco, but he should not be a threat to our area at all, as our high pressure and cool weather will keep him to the south.

WATER: I did not have any storm updates last week on Tropical Storm Octave since it never did become a threat to our area.  What it did bring in was some rain, some lightning and thunder with dark clouds and some choppy water.  The Port Captain was concerned over the safety of people on the water and closed the port to small vessel traffic Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so anglers who had scheduled a fishing trip on a Panga had no love for those days.  The port was closed to all traffic on Saturday as a precaution, even though the water was fishable (although it would have been a rough trip).  Click here to read the complete Fly Hooker Fish Report on LosCabosGuide.com
